Sorrowful Mystery of the Holy Rosary

The SORROWFUL MYSTERIES of the Holy ROSARY are a profound and reflective set of prayers that invite believers to meditate on significant events in the life of Jesus Christ. These mysteries focus on the intense suffering and sacrifice of Jesus, leading up to His crucifixion and death. As we contemplate these sorrowful moments, we are reminded of the immense love and redemption that Christ offered to humanity through His passion. The Sorrowful Mysteries invite us to enter into the depth of Christ's mercy and to find solace and strength in His unwavering example of love and obedience to God's will. Through the recitation of the rosary, we accompany the Blessed Virgin Mary in meditating on these sacred events, seeking comfort and guidance in our own trials and tribulations.

In this mystery of the Rosary, Let us ponder and pray that the Holy spirit will enlighten us how the fruit applies to its respective mystery and to embody that fruit in our own life. As we meditate on the fruits of the Sorrowful Mysteries, Lord, open our hearts to receive the fruits and we ask Jesus and Mary to reveal where we can grow in that fruit. May the grace of YOur Agony, Lord, come down into our soul and make us truly contrite and perfectly obedient to Your holy will.

HOW TO PRAY THE HOLY ROSARY?

How to pray the Holy Rosary?

BEGIN BY MAKING THE SIGN OF THE CROSS
In the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

RECITE THE CREED
I believe in God, the Father almighty, Creator of heaven and earth, and in in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the Holy Spirit, and born of the Virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. On the third day He rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen.

Pray the LORD'S PRAYER and three HAIL MARY'S for the virtues of Faith, Hope and Charity; end with GLORY BE

OUR FATHER Who art in heaven, Hallowed be Thy Name. Thy Kingdom come, Thy Will be done, On earth as it is in Heaven. Give us this day, our daily bread, And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.

HAIL MARY Full of Grace, The Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now, and at the hour of death. Amen.

GLORY BE to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

My God, I believe, I adore, I hope and I love you. I ask pardon for those who do not believe, do not adore, do not hope, and do not love you. Amen.

Pray "HAIL HOLY QUEEN" after the five decades:
Hail, holy Queen, mother of mercy, our life, our sweetness, and our hope. To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve. To thee do we send up our sighs mourning and weeping in this valley of tears. Turn then, most gracious advocate, thine eyes of mercy toward us, and after this our exile show us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus. O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary. Pray for us, O Holy Mother of God. That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

V. Pray for us, O holy Mother of God.
R. That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

Let us pray. O God, Whose Only-Begotten Son, by His life, death and resurrection, has purchased for us the rewards of eternal life: grant, we beseech Thee, that by meditating upon these mysteries of the most holy Rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary, we may imitate what they contain, and obtain what they promise, through the same Christ our Lord. Amen.

THE CHAPLET OF DIVINE MERCY (ROSARY)

At three o'clock, implore My mercy, especially for sinners; and, if only for a brief moment, immerse yourself in My Passion, particularly in My abandonment at the moment of agony. This is the hour of great mercy. In this hour, I will refuse nothing to the soul that makes a request of Me in virtue of My Passion (Diary, 1320). As often as you hear the clock strike the third hour, immerse yourself completely in My mercy, adoring and glorifying it; invoke its omnipotence for the whole world, and particularly for poor sinners; for at that moment mercy was opened wide for every soul. In this hour you can obtain everything for yourself and for others for the asking; it was the hour of grace for the whole world — mercy triumphed over justice. (1572)

First opening prayer.
This prayer is optional, and may be used to begin the Chaplet:
You expired, Jesus, but the source of life gushed forth for souls, and the ocean of mercy opened up for the whole world. O Fount of Life, unfathomable Divine Mercy, envelop the whole world and empty Yourself out upon us.

KEEPING A ROSARY AND ITS BEAUTIFUL STORY

Keep a Rosary, even of the little ones, under the pillow. Knowing that a Rosary is within reach, is like having Mary beside you, just like our own mother, always ready to help us. it is a  comfort knowing we have our mother at our side.
Meaningful actions gain more strength when their origin is known.
Why do not you know the history of the Holy Rosary?
I always asked myself: Who would have thought of repeating the Beads of Mary so many times? What’s the point? Now it is understood and each time they pray it, each Hail Mary is a precious rose for the Virgin. I am sure we all know this beautiful prayer that is the Holy Rosary.
Here is a beautiful story about the Rosary …
A legend tells that a Brother (who was not a priest) of the Order of the Dominicans, could not read or write, so he could not read the Psalms, as was the custom in the convents of the time.
Then, when he finished his work at night (he was the doorman, the sweeper, the gardener, etc …) he went to the convent chapel and knelt in front of the image of the Virgin Mary, and recited 150 Hail Marys ( the number of the psalms), then he retired to his cell to sleep.
In the morning, at dawn, he got up before all his brothers and went to the chapel to repeat his habit of greeting the Virgin.
Brother Superior noticed that every day, when he arrived at the chapel to celebrate morning prayers with all the monks, there was an exquisite smell of freshly cut roses and he became curious, so he asked everyone who was in charge of adorn the altar of the Virgin so beautifully, to which the answer was that none did, and the rose bushes in the garden were not missing their flowers.
The lay brother became seriously ill; the other monks noticed that the altar of the Virgin did not have the usual roses, and they deduced that it was the Brother who put the roses. But how?
Nobody had ever seen him leave the convent, nor did they know that he bought the beautiful roses.
One morning he was surprised that he had risen, but they could not find him anywhere.
At last, they met in the chapel, and each monk who entered was amazed, for the lay brother was kneeling in front of the image of the Virgin, ecstatically reciting his Hail Marys, and each one that addressed the Lady, a rose appeared in the vases
Thus at the end of his 150 greetings, he fell dead at the feet of the Virgin.
Over the years, Santo Domingo de Guzmán, (it is said that by revelation of the Blessed Virgin); He divided the 150 Hail Marys into three groups of 50, and associated them with the meditation of the Bible: The Joyful Mysteries, the Sorrowful Mysteries and the Glorious Mysteries, to which Blessed Pope John Paul II added the Luminous Mysteries.

The Benefits of the Rosary:
  • When you carry your Rosary, it is a headache for Satan
  • When you use your Rosary, Satan collapses
  • When he sees you praying the Rosary, he vanishes
  • We are going to pray the rosary every time, in order to keep Satan vanished.
  • Did you know that when you try to share this message, Satan is going to try to discourage you?
By sharing this message, you collaborate to accelerate the triumph of the Virgin Mary!
Share it with your friends and prayer partners and then see how the Holy Spirit works !!

PRAYER FOR THE SICK

Physical Healing

Lord, I come before you trusting in your mercy and love.

I come before you with faith in your promise that you shall
grant whatever we ask for in prayer if it will be what is best for our soul.
Lord, heal me of my (kind of sickness).
Touch me now in the areas of my body that need most of your healing love.
Let the warmth of your healing love penetrate every cell,
every nerve and tissue in my sick body.
Replace these sick cells with new and healthy cells.
Cast out anything that should not be in me.
Cleanse all infections, remove all inflammations, open any blocked arteries
or veins and rebuild all damaged areas.
Strengthen my body, my mind, emotions and spirit and with that
same power by which you created me, heal me and recreate me, Lord.
Restore me to full health in body, mind, emotions and spirit.
Give me the grace to accept this pain and suffering with patient resignation
to your most Holy will and plan for my life.
Have mercy on me and forgive my sins.
Let me find peace amidst my suffering and offer it for the salvation of souls,
especially those of my family and loved ones.
With eyes of faith, let me see the blessings out of this physical sickness.
And after I have been healed, may I be a witness of your healing
love and power and serve you for the rest of my life.
In Jesus’ name I pray, through Mary and all the angels and saints.
Amen.

HOW TO PRAY THE HOLY ROSARY

* If you do not know the prayers of the Rosary, you will find them in the Rosary Diagram.
  1. Holding the crucifix of the Rosary with your right hand, make the Sign of the Cross and then kiss the crucifix.
  2. It is good to begin your Rosary by offering it for some intention.
Example: “I offer this Rosary for all my spiritual needs and those of my family, for the conversion of sinners, in reparation for my sins and those of all sinners, for world peace and the triumph of Mary's Immaculate Heart.”
  3. On the crucifix, pray the Apostles’ Creed.
  4. On the first single bead after the crucifix, pray an Our Father.
  5. On each of the next three beads, which are grouped together, pray a Hail Mary.
  6. After the three Hail Marys, pray the Glory be. Now this is where the “decades” begin.
  7. On the next single bead, announce the decade and then pray an Our Father. (Example: “The First Joyful Mystery, the Annunciation. Our Father, Who art...”)
  8. On each of the ten beads that follow, pray a Hail Mary while reflecting upon the mystery assigned to this decade (see list of mysteries below). Some people find that looking at a picture depicting each mystery helps them meditate on the mystery.
  9. After the ten Hail Marys, pray the “Glory be” and “O my Jesus...”
  10. Repeat steps 6 and 7 until you have prayed all 5 decades.
  11. Many Catholics also pray the “Hail Holy Queen,” the Prayer to St. Michael, and the Litany of the Blessed Virgin at the end of the Rosary.

More About the Holy Rosary

The diagram above at the right shows a five-decade Rosary such as those most commonly used by Catholics. The purpose of the beads is to keep track of the prayers, especially the sets of 10 Hail Marys. As seen in the chart, the single beads are the Our Fathers, while the group of three beads and the five groups of ten beads are the Hail Marys. As we pass each bead through our fingers, we pray the appropriate prayer, and then move to the next one. By doing this, we simply work our way around the Rosary, beginning at the Crucifix and ending at the centerpiece.
It is best to use a Rosary that has been blessed by a priest, but this is not absolutely necessary, although there are extra indulgences attached to praying on a blessed Rosary. In times of persecution, for example, Catholics have been known to use stones or pebbles, or even their fingers or toes to count the Hail Marys.
The Rosary should be prayed in a reverent position of the body. For example, we are encouraged to kneel before an image of our Blessed Mother or the Crucifix, or in a church or chapel before the Blessed Sacrament while praying the Rosary, but this is not mandatory. Kneeling is a sign of reverence and it also helps the mind stay alert and free from distraction during prayer. Some people, however, are not physically able to kneel, at least for the entire Rosary, and it is certainly acceptable to sit in a reverent, alert position. The Rosary may also be prayed while walking, whether in procession or on a simple walk alone or with others. The sick may pray it while lying in bed, and many Catholics pray extra decades until they fall asleep in bed at night.
A very important point is that the heart of the Rosary is not the repetition of these prayers, but our meditation upon the mysteries of the lives of Jesus and Mary during each decade. As we pray each set of Hail Marys, we should meditate upon the event in the lives of Jesus and Mary assigned to that decade, and on the grace or virtue manifested in that mystery, praying humbly for the grace to imitate Their example in our lives.
The mysteries are divided into three groups:
The Joyful Mysteries: (Mondays, Thursdays)*
1st Mystery: The Annunciation (Luke 1:26-38)
2nd Mystery: The Visitation (Luke 1:39-56)
3rd Mystery: The Birth of Our Lord (Luke 2:1-21)
4th Mystery: The Presentation (Luke 2:22-38)
5th Mystery: The Finding in the Temple (Luke 2:41-52)
The Sorrowful Mysteries (Tuesdays, Fridays, Sundays in Lent)*
1st Mystery: The Agony in the Garden (Matt. 26:36-56)
2nd Mystery: The Scourging at the Pillar (Matt. 27:26)
3rd Mystery: The Crowning with Thorns (Matt. 27:27-31)
4th Mystery: The Carrying of the Cross (Matt. 27:32)
5th Mystery: The Crucifixion (Matt. 27:33-56)
The Glorious Mysteries (Wednesdays, Saturdays, Sundays)*
1st Mystery: The Resurrection (John 20:1-29)
2nd Mystery: The Ascension (Luke 24:36-53)
3rd Mystery: The Descent of the Holy Ghost (Acts 2:1-41)
4th Mystery: The Assumption of Our Lady
5th Mystery: The Coronation of Our Lady

* These days are suggested for praying these sets of mysteries, but they can be prayed any day. Those who are able are encouraged to pray all 15 decades every day.
