THE LITANY OF SAINT JOSEPH

WALKING WITH THE SILENT GUARDIAN: A REFLECTION AND THE LITANY OF SAINT JOSEPH

Saint Joseph is one of the most quietly profound figures in salvation history. Though Scripture records no spoken words from him, his life resounds with strength, obedience, and faith. He was the humble guardian of Jesus and the chaste protector of Mary—a man of action guided by divine trust rather than public recognition.

In today's world, where noise and self-promotion dominate, the example of Saint Joseph reminds us of the deep virtue in quiet service, fidelity, and courage. The Litany of Saint Joseph is a prayer that invites us into deeper reflection on his life and virtues, while seeking his powerful intercession. It is especially meaningful for fathers, workers, families, and all who labor quietly for the good of others.

-------

Litany’s Update

The Litany of Saint Joseph honors his role as the foster father of Jesus, spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary, and patron of the Universal Church. First approved in 1909, it was updated in May 2021 by Pope Francis during the Year of Saint Joseph, with the addition of seven new invocations. These new titles further express the Church’s love and admiration for Saint Joseph’s example.

The Committee on Divine Worship of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) approved a slightly adapted English translation incorporating these additions, as well as new introductory and concluding prayers. This litany carries a partial indulgence (Manual of Indulgences, concession 22), offering grace to those who pray it devoutly.

NOVENA TO SAINT JOSEPH -DAY 9

Day 9- SAINT JOSEPH NOVENA - Day 9

Oh, St. Joseph, whose protection is so great, so strong, so prompt before the throne of God. I place in you all my interests and desires…. Please pray for an increase in devotion to Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament of the Eucharist, and for our beloved parish that is under your patronage. (Mention your additional requests here…)

Oh, St. Joseph, do assist me by your powerful intercession, and obtain for me from your divine Son all spiritual blessings, through Jesus Christ, our Lord. So that, having engaged here below your heavenly power, I may offer my thanksgiving and homage to the most loving of Fathers.

Oh, St. Joseph, I never weary of contemplating you, and Jesus asleep in your arms; I dare not approach while He reposes near your heart. Press Him in my name and kiss His fine head for me and ask him to return the Kiss when I draw my dying breath. St. Joseph, Patron of departing souls – Pray for me.

Say 1: Our Father…Say 1: Hail Mary…Say 1: Glory Be…

NOVENA TO SAINT JOSEPH - DAY 7

NOVENA TO ST. JOSEPH
Day 7

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.

Amen.

Saint Joseph, you are the faithful protector and intercessor of all who love and venerate you. You know that I have confidence in you and that, after Jesus and Mary, I come to you as an example for holiness, for you are especially close with God. Therefore, I humbly commend myself, with all who are dear to me and all that belong to me, to your intercession. I beg of you, by your love for Jesus and Mary, not to abandon me during life and to assist me at the hour of my death.

Glorious Saint Joseph, spouse of the Immaculate Virgin, pray for me to have a pure, humble, charitable mind, and perfect resignation to the divine Will. Be my guide, my father, and my model through life that I may die as you did in the arms of Jesus and Mary.

Loving Saint Joseph, faithful follower of Jesus Christ, I raise my heart to you to implore your powerful intercession in obtaining from the Divine Heart of Jesus all the graces necessary for my spiritual and temporal welfare, particularly the grace of a happy death, and the special grace I now implore:

(Mention your request)

Guardian of the Word Incarnate, I feel confident that your prayers on my behalf will be graciously heard before the throne of God.

St. Joseph Pillar of Families, Pray for us!

Amen.

Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end.

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.

Amen.
