Prayer to Saint Rita

Rita of Cascia, born Margherita Lotti, (1381 – 22 May 1457) was an Italian widow and Augustinian nun venerated as a saint in the Roman Catholic Church.

In Christian iconography, she is depicted with a bleeding forehead wound and sometimes holding a thorn.Rita has acquired the reputation, together with St. Jude, as a saint of impossible causes. She is also the patron saint of sterility, abuse victims, loneliness, marriage difficulties, parenthood, widows, the sick, bodily ills, and wounds.

O Glorious St. Rita, who didst miraculously participate in the sorrowful Passion of our Lord Jesus Christ, obtain for me the grace to suffer with resignation the troubles of this life, and protect me in all my needs. Amen.

Prayer to St. Rita When in Special Need

O powerful St. Rita,rightly called

the Saint of the Impossible.

I come to you with confidence in my

great need. You know well my

trials, for you yourself were many

times burdened in this life. Come

to my help, speak for

me, pray with me, intercede on

my behalf before the Father. I

know that God has a most gene-

rous heart, and that He is a most loving Father. Join your

prayers to mine and obtain for

me the grace I desire, ( here mention your request ).

You, who were very pleasing to

God on earth, and are so much

so now in heaven, I promise to use this favor, when granted, to

better my life. To proclaim God's

mercy, and to make you more

widely known and loved.

AMEN

WHO IS SAINT RITA?

Born: 1381, Roccaporena, Italy
Died: 22 May 1457, Cascia, Italy
Full name: Margherita Lotti
Feast: May 22

Saint Rita of Cascia was an Italian widow and Augustinian nun venerated as a saint in the Roman Catholic Church. Rita was a child bride, married before the age of 12. She wanted to be a nun but she was encouraged to marry at a young age. After her husband and her sons unfortunately died she tried to become a nun but she was turned away at first because she was a widow. However, after some time they allowed her to join. She was a very holy person and was very prayerful and giving. She received a partial stigmata while praying in front of the cross with a wound on her forehead as if from a thorn of Jesus’ crown of thorns. Weeping with love, St. Rita had asked to share in Our Lord’s suffering and her request was granted in this literally striking way! She bore the painful
wound with typical dignity and grace, imitating our crucified Lord.
She is the patron saint of impossible cases, sterility, abuse victims, loneliness, marriage difficulties, parenthood, widows, the sick, bodily ills, and wounds. Rita's body, which has remained incorrupt over the centuries, is venerated today in the shrine at Cascia, which bears her name. Roses are her symbol.
The prayer to St. Rita, like her miracles, helps remind us indeed that “all things are possible with God,” as Jesus said in Mark’s gospel (10:27).

The Prayer To St. Rita
Holy Patroness of those in need, Saint Rita, so humble, pure and patient, whose pleadings with thy Divine Spouse are irresistible, obtain for me from thy Crucified Christ my request (mention it here). Be kind to me, for the greater glory of God, and I promise to honor thee and to sing thy praises forever.
Oh glorious St. Rita, who didst miraculously participate in the sorrowful Passion of our Lord Jesus Christ, obtain for me the grace to suffer with resignation the troubles of this life, and protect me in all my needs. Amen
